This cracks me up. Seriously. We all know (and most of us hate) Comic Sans, doesn’t it remind us all of the newsletters our teachers sent home in elementary school? The torture called spelling tests…ah well. Funny that most of these are some of the most hated, yet overused typefaces…

What are the most overused typefaces?

4. Helvetica
5. Trajan
6. Times New Roman

8 useful jQuery galleries and lightboxes

Almost every other website you use will have some sort of gallery on it. It may be a video gallery, photography gallery, or design gallery, but when you’re designing them, you have to make that vital decision: hand code a simple gallery, or use someone else’s code to glorify yourself? If you’re picking the second, you might wanna take a look at these scripts. All of them use jQuery as a base, making them lightweight and very easy to set up. You don’t have to know Javascript, you barely have to be a web developer.

1. Fancybox

Fancybox is probably my all-time favorite. It’s got a really simple look and a surprising amount of features. It’s not as lightweight as some of the others due to it’s use of images, but it’s worth it.

2. Lightbox

Lightbox is based on one of the original modal box systems, and it’s also pretty sweet.

3. Thickbox

Noticing a naming trend here? Thickbox is no longer maintained, but the creators recommend…

4. Colorbox

Colorbox has a slightly more complex interface than the previous three.

5. Sliding Boxes and Captions

This one’s actually a tutorial. You roll over the images and a title or description will slide up or down or diagonally, or anything else. There’s a lot of different ways to use it.

6. Galleria

Galleria is a smooth little gallery that looks like it’s flash. And yet it’s not.

7. jqFancyTransitions

This comes with some pretty cool transitions, the featured one being… well… see it for yourself.

8. Tooltip and Image Preview

Tooltips… with your image inside. Is it a gallery… or does it eliminate the need for one? *gasp*
